A group of NGOs submitted to the Supreme Tribunal of Justice a report on her health and on the serious violations of due process in the case of Judge María Lourdes Afiuni, who is in jail at the National Institute for Female Counseling (INOF)

Theresly Malavé, a representative of the NGO Organización Justicia y Proceso Venezuela, submitted to the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, particularly to Justices Eladio Aponte Aponte and Luisa Estela Morales, a report on serious violations of due process and law in the case of Judge María Lourdes Afiuni.

"We are doing all this because Justice Luisa Estela Morales said that she was not familiar with the case of Judge Afiuni. We have submitted a report to the Justice on the status of the case and her conditions in prison, Malavé said. She was accompanied by the director of the NGO Control Ciudadano (Citizen's Monitoring), Rocío San Miguel, and members of the NGO Ventana a La Libertad (A Window to Freedom).

Malavé recalled that a judge has admitted the charge for the crime of corruption against Judge Afiuni "but at a preliminary hearing, the prosecution determined, after the investigation, that there was no money involved."

Judge Afiuni remains detained in a Caracas prison since December after she authorized the conditional release of Eligio Cedeño, a banker accused of corruption.
